Apparently, we’re adding the outdoors to the family business.

We’ve always had a pretty simple investment thesis:

Build things that make family life better.

But we’ve realized something else about our adVenture family:

We spend a lot of our lives outside.

Camping.
Hiking.
Boating.
Swimming.
Climbing.
Snowboarding.
Getting rained on.
Getting muddy.
Occasionally questioning why we thought going outside was a good idea.

And we know the outdoors isn’t just a hobby.

For a lot of families, it’s part of how they want to live.

So we’re expanding our venture focus.

We’re interested in businesses that help families get outside, stay outside, and enjoy doing it.

That might mean outdoor apparel.

Gear.

Recreation.

Technology.

Services.

Or the less glamorous stuff that makes the whole ecosystem work.

We’re especially interested in founder-led companies that are building something genuinely useful—and figuring out how to grow without losing the reason they started in the first place.

That curiosity has also led us to something new:

The Outdoor Operator Project.

We’re talking with founders, operators, product people, and others across the outdoor industry to understand what actually makes these businesses difficult to build and scale.

Weather.

Seasonality.

Manufacturing.

Inventory.

Supply chains.

Customer behavior.

Brand identity.

And all the wonderfully complicated stuff that happens behind the scenes.

We’re not sure yet where all of this leads.

That’s kind of the point.

We’re learning.

We’re investing.

We’re looking for good people building good things.

And, ideally, we’re finding companies that make it a little easier for more families to have the kind of life we want for ourselves:

one with more time together, more time outside, and fewer reasons to stay indoors.
